HISTORIA

 El nombre de Tuxtepec proviene del náhuatl Tōchtepēc, que significa "en el cerro del conejo"; ya que se encuentra formado de las voces tōchtli, "conejo", tépētl, "cerro" y la terminación c, "en", que se antepone a las anteriores en su traducción al español, por lo que no es correcto que se nombre Tōchtépetl, "cerro de los conejos", en vista a que esta versión solo da a suponer el lugar, más no el emplazamiento de la población. Tras la Conquista de México fue adaptado el término al español con la forma Tustepeque, que con el tiempo llegaría a ser el actual Tuxtepec.
